What is Access?
E-mail

Access refers to visitation between the child and non-custodial parent. It is the right of the child to know and have a relationship with each of his or her parents.

If the parties cannot agree on when a non-custodial parent and child should visit, the court will make this decision, based on the child's best interests. Access may be supervised or unsupervised. Access may be supervised if this is necessary to ensure proper care of the child during visits. It simply means that an adult other than the parent will be present during the visits. Their role is not to interfere, but to ensure that the child is comfortable and that the visit goes smoothly. If you have any other questions about access, please check the other entries under "Family Law", or send us your question in the "Ask a Question" section.
